Cycling Tour Of The Baltics Overview

This 12-day bicycle tour takes you through three distinct Baltic countries — Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia — as we travel from Vilnius to Tallinn via the vibrant capital of Riga. Along the way, you’ll experience a unique blend of cultures, landscapes, and histories that define this lesser-travelled region of Europe.

We begin in Vilnius, Lithuania’s baroque capital, with its atmospheric old town and artistic spirit. From there, we cycle through peaceful countryside, forested parks, and quiet villages, gradually making our way to Riga, Latvia’s lively and architecturally rich capital. After exploring Riga’s charming streets and bustling markets, the route continues north, passing through coastal stretches and natural reserves that offer long views over the Baltic Sea, sandy beaches, and the fresh scent of pine.

The final leg of the journey leads us into Estonia, where we’ll ride through the serene beauty of Lahemaa National Park and on to Tallinn, one of Europe’s best-preserved medieval cities. With its cobbled streets, fortified walls, and vibrant café culture, Tallinn offers the perfect finale to this diverse and rewarding adventure.

Trip Difficulty

For full enjoyment of the trip, you should come prepared to complete the 80-90 km / 45-55 mile days comfortably on flat and gently rolling terrain. Most of the hilly terrain occurs during Days 7 and 8 of the trip, when riding in the Gauja National Park.

We try to design our route along small, quiet, and picturesque roads with little car traffic and/or bike paths that enhance our sightseeing of the local areas. Any bike is feasible for this tour, road bike, touring (hybrid) bike or even mountain bike if that’s what you are used to.

Transportation

Vilnius is serviced by Vilnius International Airport (VNO), which is located just a few kilometers from the city center. The easiest way to get to your hotel is by taxi, with the ride typically costing around 15–20 Euros. Alternatively, you can take a train or bus. The train from the airport to the central station takes about 8 minutes, while buses are frequent and take around 20–25 minutes depending on traffic.

The airport you’ll be flying out of Tallinn from will most probably be Lennart Meri Tallinn Airport (TLL). You can get there by taxi, which will cost you around 10–15 Euros from the city center. A cheaper and efficient alternative is the tram – Tram No. 4 connects the airport to the city center in about 15–20 minutes, and the ticket costs less than 2 Euros.
